About me.

My name is James Swale and am 37 years old. I have been living in Brighton since graduating from Sussex University in 1998. I have a famous mother who has just single-handedly run round the entire world by herself to raise money to charity. Her name is Rosie Swale Pope. It took her five years and she returned back home on the 25th of August.

I managed my mums website and the weekly updates, the web address is www.Rosiearoundtheworld.co.uk please take a look I would love you to see it.

I believe all people are equally unique and each and every one of us is of great value, and deserving of respect and consideration.

The idea to start Patientfriends has been rattling around my head for several years.  Patientfriends is about standing up for what you believe in, and trying to improve things for the benefit of everyone.

I once read a book where a man asked the advice of a very wise person, and the man asked him "what should I do with my life", and the wise man replied "do the duty that is nearest to you".

As I mentioned before in this website, there are a lot of important issues in the world. But we can contribute by doing the things which are nearest to us.

If there is anything more important than one's own health and that of our friends and family, not to mention everyone in our community; I'd like to know what it is.

I believe Patientfriends can make a difference, and achieve improvements in patient care and patient satisfaction.  I believe it will enable people to feel empowered by becoming involved with a really important area that affects all of us directly.

I have a fair amount of experience being treated in the NHS. on the one hand I've had extremely good treatment from doctors and nurses and staff who I respect enormously.  But on the other side of the coin my NHS experience was often unpleasant, and dehumanising.  I found I felt powerless and seemed to have very few rights as a patient.

I felt a sense poor standards and a casual attitude towards patient care and it made be quite angry, particularly to think that other people are having the same poor level of healthcare.

I've got no axe to grind against any particular person, because it seemed to me, it is the status quo, the way things are organised that allow poor patient care to happen. and it is this that I'm interested in campaigning to change.

I very much admire the NHS and the principles for which it stands for, I just want to see it be the best it can be.  And for the people who are served by the NHS to be given voice, and their experiences listen to, so things can improve.

I believe all of us have a great deal to offer.  I urge you strongly to get involved with Patientfriends and share your skills your talents and your experiences.  I think it will be a lot of fun and hopefully we'll be able to do some good.

All the best James Swale
